She walked into the crowded room
Her eyes still red her cheeks still wet
From the tears that have fallen to her blouse

No one turned a head
As she sat back down and sipped her drink
No one seemed to notice anything

But I can see her thoughts have turned to black
Traces of red there's no turning back

Now I wonder about love
Why it leaves us wanting and what it lacks
I wonder is it love or is it me

And as I watch her through these tainted eyes
She begins to blur and to my surprise
I have tears of my own to hide

The heart's a lonely hunter I've heard it said
And my soul cries out to comfort one who's bled

Now I don't really know much about anything
Except maybe Romeo and Juliet
Man those two kids they really knew how to bleed

The past the present the future
They all come together right here right now
As she looks up and stares straight at me

And I can only imagine what she sees
And still I ignore her desperate plea

Now as the evening winds toward its weary end
She gets up to leave but sits back down again
He face written with indecision and grief

I want to tell her that someone cares
Someone's noticed that love's no longer there
But I keep my silence and so despair

I know she's headed toward certain doom
So I turn my head for one last look as she leaves the room

A poet I shall never be
The rhymes the insight the depth of reasoning
Whatever it is it seems to elude me

My heroes would not have let her down
They would have climbed any tower faced any dragon
To rescue this fair damsel from her plight

And as you hold the hand of the one you love
I hope you can forgive me for what I've done
